Randall Alifano

Author, Counselor, Father

Dr. Randall Alifano has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and is an Ordained Minister with over 40 years of integrating psychology and spirituality in his private practice. Randall has worked in various agencies where he counseled battered women, ran groups for violent men, helped in a residential care facility for the elderly, guided mistreated children in a residential care home, and designed a domestic violence program at the Center for Special Problems.

Randall draws on his wealth of experience to provide practical guidance on how to get away from habituated patterns that inhibit listening with presence, empathy, and curiosity in his book, Listening in the Raw: Coming Home to Receptivity.

He has seen firsthand the transformative power of being heard, and he offers concrete examples of how Listening in the Raw can help deepen our relationships, enhance our personal growth, and end our accepted state of isolation.

Randall’s story started in high school when friends would come to him to discuss their concerns, leaving them feeling better. That led to a lifelong pursuit of enhancing his listening skills by overcoming unconscious filters and defenses. Over the decades, he has listened to people’s dreams, aspirations, traumas, and confusions, helping them attune to their inner wisdom.

In his book, Randall shares heartfelt stories from his experiences as a friend, partner, and counselor, examining the barriers that can hold us back from fully listening and offering gentle guidance on moving past them. His book isn’t just a collection of techniques; it’s a meditation on listening, exploring the obstacles to authentic connection, and offering a new perspective on building fulfilling relationships.

Randall is a drummer, percussionist, and co-founder of the musical collective, Tandamazi, inspiring dancers of all ages to listen to the beat of the drum and follow their feet on a rhythmic dancing path.

On his days off he can be seen hiking the trails of Mt. Tam with his dog, Tuccio, and his beloved, Davida, traveling far and wide with his camera, cooking large pots of his grandma’s famous Bolognese sauce and creating the best lasagna in the universe.
